House Pets

dogHouse pets are so popular, it’s hard to find someone who does not have at least one pet in the house. Dogs are probably the most popular, followed closely by cats and aquarium fish.

Many households have two or three pets. We happen to have two as I write this; freshwater fish and a Chinese Water Dragon. We’re in the process of looking for a dog for our grandchild.

The purpose of this house pets web site is to help you decide how to choose a pet that is best for you, and then how to train (if needed) and care for that pet.

Some pets are high maintenance. You need to train them to obey you and they may require brushing or nail clipping or shots, etc., so choose a pet you know you manage.

Even fish require water changes and certain chemicals to keep the aquarium or fish bowl sparkling clean.

The upside is pets seem to have a positive effect on most people, in particular the elderly. Dogs are regularly taken to nursing homes and hospitals to cheer up the patience.

Kids obviously love them. I have a grandson who adores dogs. His mother is not allowed a dog in her apartment so, even though my wife and I thought we were done owning a dog, I can’t see him being deprived of the joy and the experience so . . . . . looks like we will once again own a dog. :-)

I do want to stress something important. There are many different ways to train a dog. Some people use treats, some swear treats is not the way to go. Which is right? Whichever works for you.

That’s why you can’t simply read one person’s point of view and live by it. Now that might work and if it does . . . . . great. But you might want to try some of the various links and maybe products I put on this site. Something might just click and you find the dog training method that works for you.

We have had birds, fish, lizards, guinea pigs, and a lot more pets, so I will bring you house pet information both from tips I have picked up over the years and from actual experience.
